The Bowning and District Progress Association is a community-based organisation representing the interests of resident and businesses within the Bowning District whether village or rural based.
Our goals are to
- Make representations to our Local, State and Federal levels of Government on issues affecting our residents and businesses.
- Hold monthly meetings to provide a forum for the community to raise issues of concern and for the dissemination of information.
- Respond to Council community consultation requests.
- Deliver improvements to our community in cooperation with all levels of government and the private sector.
- Manage an online presence to deliver relevant information to the community.
We encourage membership to the Association and participation by the community in our activities.
Membership to the Association is $10 per year. Applications for membership and the payment of memberships can be made by attending our monthly meetings.
Monthly meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at the Bowning Hotel from 7pm. The Bowning Hall may occasionally be the venue if a larger attendance is expected. Councillors and Council staff are invited to these meetings as an opportunity to exchange information.
Current Projects
Beautification of the Bowning Village
The Association has received a grant of $80,000 to undertake beautification works around the village. The grant was provided by the NSW Premier’s Department under the Local Small Commitments Allocation Program. The implementation of this grant aligns with the Bowning Village Masterplan and complements the Bowning Active Circuit grant from Transport for NSW to the Yass Valley Council (installation of footpaths around the Bowning Village).
Works completed:
- BBQ and Water bubbler at the Recreation ground
- Removal of tree stumps around the Recreation Ground
Works planned:
- Install 6 picnic tables (3 at the Recreation ground, 2 at the Bowning Hall and 1 on the common beside Wales Close) and 5 seats (1 at the cemetery, 1 below the post Office, 1 near the bridge at the junction of Bowning Road and Leake Street, 1 at the Bowning Hall and 1 beside the bike path beside Minehan lane).
- Three notice boards (at the Recreation ground, post office/general store and bus shelter opposite the Bowning Hotel)
- Mural on the Recreation Ground Canteen/cricket change room building
- Mural on the water tanks on the reserve between the Recreation ground and Bowning Road.
- Nature walk linking the water tanks and the Recreation ground
- Sign at the entrance of the Cemetery
- Other development may include gardens and tree plantings.
Recreation Ground canteen upgrade
Grant received: Transgrid’s Community Partnerships Program, (Round 1 of 2024) for canteen equipment (Hot water system, oven, fridge and small kitchen items).
Donation from the Bowning Cricket Club and fundraising to install work benches, lighting, access door and other improvement to the Canteen.
Below is a photo of the canteen with the hot water system and oven installed. The remaining fittings need to be replaced and the gap at the top of the walls sealed.
